Rekeying locks in Monte Sereno usually costs between $95 and $260 depending on how many cylinders are involved, and most jobs on the town’s estate properties are finished the same day. Monte Sereno’s homes are not like the condos and apartments you see in nearby Campbell or San Jose – these are large custom builds on wooded, acre-plus lots where a locksmith visit means navigating a private lane, a gate call box, or a detached garage that holds more than just a car. Call (833) 589-8078 and we’ll quote the full rekey price before anyone is dispatched.
Why Monte Sereno Homes Are Different
Monte Sereno is a fully residential city of roughly 3,400 people tucked between Los Gatos and Saratoga, and that rare quality – no commercial main street, no streetlights, no apartment blocks – changes what a locksmith actually does here. Most properties were built from the 1960s through the 1990s and then remodeled at least once, which means the original Schlage or Kwikset hardware at the front door often does not match the newer Baldwin or Yale sets on a pool house, a wine room, or a rear mudroom door. We regularly encounter homes where four different keyways are spread across one property, because each remodel phase brought a different contractor and a different lock brand.
The terrain matters too. Long private driveways off Daves Avenue, Via Del Rey, and El Rancho Lane mean some doors are 200 feet from the nearest parking spot. A service call is planned around that. And because Monte Sereno keeps the night dark on purpose – no streetlights by ordinance – exterior hardware gets heavy use on feel alone. Homeowners reach for a key by touch, and worn or gritty cylinders that would be an annoyance elsewhere become a real frustration here. The Silicon Valley climate adds its own twist: warm, dry summers and mild winters leave lock mechanisms coated in dust and pollen more than rust. Finishes fade on the south-facing side of a house while the north-facing hardware stays bright, and keyways gum up with grit that a quick spray of graphite sometimes cannot fix. We know that before we arrive, and we bring the right cleaning compounds and replacement cylinders instead of discovering it at the door.
Styles & brands we work with
Our Main Monte Sereno Services
Two calls dominate our Monte Sereno work: car key replacement for residents whose vehicles sit in gated or detached garages, and emergency lockout response for the moments when a door closes behind you and the key is still on the kitchen counter. Here is how each one works in this town.
Car Key Replacement in Monte Sereno
Monte Sereno’s properties are built for cars – most homes have three-car garages or detached structures, and a fair number of residents keep a second or third vehicle on the property. When a transponder key or key fob is lost, the local options are sparse: there is no dealership in Monte Sereno itself, and driving to a Los Gatos or San Jose dealer without a working key is not usually possible. We come to the property with programming equipment for a range of makes, cut and program on-site, and handle the job without towing. Read the full breakdown on our Car Key Replacement in Monte Sereno page.
Emergency Locksmith in Monte Sereno
An emergency call in Monte Sereno rarely looks like a storefront lockout – there are no storefronts. It is a homeowner locked out of a side entrance off a flag lot, or a parent who locked the house key inside while walking a child down a dark, unlit lane. The driveways are long and the properties are set back from the road, so when we respond we account for the time it takes to reach the actual door once the gate opens. Our full response protocol and what to expect are on the Emergency Locksmith in Monte Sereno page.

Rekey Locks in Monte Sereno
Rekeying in Monte Sereno is the fastest way to take back control of who holds a key, and in this town the job usually involves more than one door. Monte Sereno’s housing stock – large custom homes from the 1960s through the 1990s, many since remodeled – means multiple exterior doors, detached garages, pool houses, and gate hardware, all of which may carry different keyways. The dry, dusty climate works into locks over time, so a rekey here often includes cleaning and lubricating cylinders that have accumulated years of grit and pollen. Our Rekey Locks service covers the full range of hardware found on these properties.
Lock Rekey
Signs you need it
You have bought a Monte Sereno home, completed a remodel with contractors and subcontractors, or had a housekeeper, dog walker, or pool service holding a key for any length of time.
What it costs in Monte Sereno
A standard lock rekey in Monte Sereno ranges from $95 to $160 per cylinder, with most whole-home multi-lock jobs falling between $180 and $320.
How we do it
We disassemble the cylinder, replace the pins and springs to match a new key, reassemble the lock, and test every key twice before we call the job done.
Rekey Door Lock
Signs you need it
The key turns stiffly or you have to jiggle it, the door was rekeyed before but you cannot confirm who has the newest key, or you want every outside door working from one key.
What it costs in Monte Sereno
Rekeying a door lock in Monte Sereno runs from $95 to $160 per cylinder, and matching multiple doors to a single key generally lands between $180 and $260.
How we do it
We remove the lock from the door, replace the pin stack inside the cylinder so the old key cannot turn it, reinstall the hardware, and cut new keys on-site.
Keyed Alike
Signs you need it
You carry separate keys for the front door, the back door, the garage, and the pool house because previous owners or contractors never matched up the hardware.
What it costs in Monte Sereno
Keying locks alike in Monte Sereno starts around $95 for the first cylinder and $20 to $30 for each additional lock matched to the same key, so a four-door property typically runs $155 to $250.
How we do it
We set each cylinder to the same pin configuration, cut matching keys, and verify that every door on the property opens with one key while old keys are rendered useless.

Brands We Service in Monte Sereno
Monte Sereno homes carry a wider range of hardware than most towns, because remodels and custom builds bring in premium lines. We service Kwikset and Schlage as the everyday workhorses, plus our brands like Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Baldwin, Yale, Sargent, and Abloy – the high-security and architectural lines serious about security. We stock common pins, cylinders, and replacement parts for these brands on the truck, so a rekey or repair on estate hardware is usually handled in one visit.

What Monte Sereno Customers Say
"The old deadbolt was mounted crooked by whoever lived here before and had been sticking for years. He redrilled and reset it properly rather than just replacing the hardware."
— Brandon Wong"Installed a smart lock and actually set up the app and the codes with me instead of leaving me to figure it out from a leaflet."
— David Nguyen"Something came loose about a month after the work. Called them, and they were back out the next day and fixed it at no charge. Didn't argue, didn't try to bill me for the trip."
